Usually a lost prime, a stuck foot valve, a closed isolation valve, or a blocked suction strainer. Check every isolation valve is fully open, listen for the pump labouring, and re-prime per the manual. Call a technician if it won't hold prime or you hear cavitation.

Why does my pump trip the safety switch (RCD) as soon as it starts?

This usually means an insulation breakdown inside the motor, cable damage, or an earth fault in the controller wiring. Do not keep resetting the RCD — isolate the pump circuit and call a licensed technician. An earth fault on a submersible pump is licensed electrical work.

My rainwater pump short-cycles, clicking on and off every few seconds. How do I fix it?

Accepted Answer

Short-cycling is usually a slow leak in the pressurised line, a failed pressure-tank bladder, a worn pressure switch, or a weeping toilet cistern. Walk every fitting with a dry cloth, listen at each toilet, and check the pressure tank. Call us if cycling continues with no visible leak.

My VFD shows a fault code and the pump is locked out. What should I do?

Accepted Answer

Photograph the fault code first. Check the cooling fan is spinning and the vents aren't blocked. If the manual allows it, attempt one reset only. Call a technician if the same code returns or if it starts with E.OC, E.OL or E.PF. Don't open the panel.
